Wait for Scarlet and Violet. Arceus is the best game on switch but it's a pretty different experience from most Pokémon games. Sword and Shield aren't bad as a starting point, but Scarlet and Violet will allow you to get into the multi-player features at the same time as everyone else. As a fan of the older games - especially Gen 1 through 3 - it's definitely nostalgic of those games. The only major difference however compared to the original games is that you don't battle wild Pokémon and has bit of a learning curve with regards to that. SWSH because that generation is now officially over (and those games are trash). BDSP because like you said, it's more like a glorified remaster and not like a normal Pokemon remake (but I suppose if they want a true classic top-down perspective Pokemon game, then maybe). 2. Every single mainline pokemon game since the first has been the same -> 8 gyms, elite four, mostly incredibly linear, great combat system but incredibly easy. Now it looks like this is the new direction for pokemon games, open world, more difficult and interactive combat, etc. Honestly, no.
