The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S captures astoundingly sharp images with captivating resolution and glorious clarity all the way to the edges of the frame. Its superior VR performance ensures exceptional sharpness when shooting handheld. And to combat colour fringing while close focusing, an all-new multi-focusing system delivers fast, accurate 1. Matt Irwin has a pretty nice comparo of the 70-180 vs the Z70-200 and the 70-200 E FL and 70-200 G VR. If I didn't already own the F-mount E FL, I'd certainly buy the 70-180. In one of the nighttime video scenes with oncoming vehicle lights, the 70-180 showed zero ghosting and on the Z 70-200 it was very prominent. This Nikon 70-200 / 2.8G VR1 works wonderfully on cropped cameras and does not cause much inconvenience due to recalculation EGF. In the case of telephoto lenses, crop factor Nikon DX cameras, in most cases, are only beneficial. Nikon ED AF-S VR-Nikkor 70-200mm 1: 2.8G (Vibration Reduction SWM IF) Assembly. The new 70-200mm f/2.8E FL VR is built on that legacy and I have no doubt that it will be as good, if not better, than its predecessors. NIKON D810 + 70-200mm f/2.8 @ 200mm, ISO 64, 1/160, f/5.6. While the lens certainly feels solid in hands, I cannot praise Nikon’s decision on reversing the focus and zoom rings. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM is the company’s latest 70-200mm and its first with an image stabilizer. It covers a 2.9x zoom-range and was announced February 2011. Sigma offers this lens with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax and Sigma mounts and it is cheaper than any other stabilized 70-200/2.8 zoom. Lens Type: Telephoto Zoom; Mount Type: Nikon F; Ideal for: Nikon DSLR; Focal Length: 70 - 200 mm; Aperture: f/2.8 - f/22; Filter Thread Size: 77 mm; Manual Zoom System, Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization, Nano Crystal Coat I wouldn't put any TC onto the excellent 200-400mm/f4 AF-S VR; it would quickly turn some very expensive optics to a poor performer. Any 1.4x is kind of iffy for the 70-200mm/f2.8; it works better on the version 2 because it is a sharper lens to begin with.

.

The bottomline is that any TC is going to degrade your optics. The older 70-200mm/f2.8 AF-S VR has less breathing, but it is well known that at 200mm, its corner sharpness is terrible, at any aperture. I have both lenses and the VR II is clearly the better lens, at a higher cost.

.

Moreover, any lens' official focal length is always measured when the lens is focused to infinity.
